I love being positive. it lifts up my spirit. I have decided to train my mind after reading you blog to think of positive things. My mind of late quickly pushes negative thoughts away. I am now in control of what i feel. Thanks so so much. Great job

great post.

the techinques i use to give my self a lift are first of all just thinking positive thoughts at anytime i feel low for a boost. i also write in a journal i use as a gratitude journal, and write all the things i am thankfull for even if it is simple things like thank you for a great day.
the best way i have found for a instant uplift is to watch one of my favorite comedy shows or movies. laughter is the best thing to gain a more positive look to life.

@Cath - Thanks! It's always nice to hear some encouraging words.

It is easy to get caught up doing our day to day stuff without fully realizing the impact it has on us. Spending a bit of time really analyzing what we do and how it affects us is always an interesting activity.

I think Colins blog is great. I think what he is doing is great. It isn't easy to get on and stay on the positive journey yet this article is great because its shining the light on some negative potholes that are so common I for one often don't even acknowledge them.

Thanks Colin - this is GREAT.

@Calvin - You make a good point! I wasn't trying to say that everything about television or music was bad, but to be more aware of the messages your brain is receiving from what you choose to listen to and watch.

Regarding negative people - it is pretty much impossible to avoid negative people all the time. Most social interactions including work life are bound to bring you into contact with negative people. When you're forced into those types of situations, it's best to keep the interactions as short as possible, or to try to steer the conversation into a more positive direction.

Regarding Thoughts - It is to difficult to monitor every thought you have. But it is easier to monitor how you're feeling. If you're feeling negative, you're probably having negative thoughts. Just like with negative people, you can try to steer your thoughts into a more positive direction by choosing to think about things that make you feel happy instead.

Overall, I would say you would need to have some sort of supernatural power to be positive all the time. But if you regularly expose yourself to positive things, people, and thoughts you'll find that being positive starts to become more of a habit. It'll become part of your personality instead of being something that you need to work at constantly.

I don't agree with everything you listed above to avoid but I do agree with the following:
1)Watching TV: I only watch shows that provide entertainment such as soccer, wrestling sometimes, supernatural and smallville. I don't care for reality shows.
2)Music: again for pure entertainment but sometimes it sounds like just noise so I turn it off, silence sounds better
3)News: I agree with not watching news. I would rather pick up a paper or read on-line but only the news that catches my eye or that I am interested in - too much bad news and that is mostly what get reported to the public, I think there should be a good news channel or even a show that only shows good news
4)People: try to find only positive people or try to remain one yourself, too much conflict or changing events for this to remain constant
5)Thoughts: Just like people, it is hard to have positive thoughts all the time, it would take a lot of work, the right environment all the time plus being with only positive people all the time.
In summary, I would love to be positive all the time but there are just too many negative factors to overcome on a continuous basis in my opinion for this to happen.
