This is a tribute to my dear grandmother who passed away last Thursday, February 4th, at the age of 91. She was an amazing woman who made this world a better place during her time here.

My grandmother never verbally gave me any advice on life, but instead she provided a living example through the way she lived her own life. I’d like to share with you what I learned from her.

1. Speak Your Mind

My grandmother was never shy about speaking her mind. She would be quick to let you know if she was tired, hungry, thirsty, bored, or if she didn’t like something. I really appreciated that about her. I think that to many people waste time by being afraid to say what they’re thinking.

Just imagine if we all spoke our minds.

No more trying to guess what’s wrong when someone is visibly upset. We could get straight to trying to solve the problem instead.

We could get to know people for who they really are instead of the false fronts that so many people put on.

We would know that the people who love us, love us for who we really are.

I think this would be a huge time and energy saver for everyone.

2. Exercise Every Day

Up until about the age of 89, my grandmother exercised every day. When she was younger she would be working on the farm that she lived on, and after she retired, she started walking 5 or more kilometers every day.

It didn’t matter if it was hot, cold, raining, or snowing, nothing stopped my grandmother from getting out for her daily exercise. For her, exercising wasn’t a should do, but a must do.

Regular exercise kept my grandmother strong and healthy. She was rarely ever sick, and she was never hospitalized for anything (except for a hip operation) until she was in the final year of her life.

3. Family is Important

What really matters the most at the end of your life is the relationships you’ve had. I’ve seen many interviews where successful people are asked what they would do differently if they got a chance to do it all over again. Almost every single one of them reply that they would spend more time with their families. They all seemed to realize that while success and accumlating money and things might be nice, it should never be done at the expense of your relationships with family and friends.

I think my grandmother understood this. Hardly a day went by that she didn’t spend at least some time with family. Sometimes her frequent requests for a visit seemed a bit frustrating, but now that she’s gone, I think our whole family really appreciates all the time that we got to spend with her.

4. Cook Everything From Scratch

My grandmother was a great cook. She made some of the best meals and pies I’ve ever tasted. And none of it ever came out of a box.

I think that part of her “secret” to having such a long and healthy life is that she avoided processed foods. Processed foods are usually devoid of any nutritional value and are often full of fat, sugar, and salt. My grandmother regularly fed herself and her family fresh, wholesome foods that provided them with plenty of vitamins and minerals.

5. Keep a Clean Home

My grandmother took pride in keeping a clean home. I never once saw any sort of mess, dirt, or dust in her home. She always honored both herself and her guests by having a clean home.

Just imagine for a minute that you got a call today saying that somebody of importance (the queen, the president, or the primeminister) was going to come over to your home for dinner tomorrow night. Would you end up going on a mad cleaning spree to get your home prepared for this person’s visit? You would want to honor this person and give them a good impression by having a clean home right?

Well, why not honor yourself by keeping your home just as clean for yourself? You matter just as much as they do. Not only that, a fresh, clean home makes you feel good, and if it’s well organized, you even tend to think more clearly.

6. Enjoy Life

Grandma ate a lot of nutritious food and she exercised regularly, but she also enjoyed life.

She didn’t deny herself the things she enjoyed, she just enjoyed them in moderation. Every day she would have one cigarette with her morning coffee. She enjoyed eating a little bit of something sweet everyday, and she would also enjoy the occasional drink.

When my grandmother did these things she wasn’t thinking of how bad they were for her, or how they were going to make her sick, or fat. She just simply enjoyed them. Being stress-free and enjoying life can go a long way to helping you to live a long and happy life.

My grandmother also had a lot of fun. She could often be seen cracking a subtle joke with a twinkle in her eye and a sly smile on her face. We even have many photos of her doing funny poses in front of landmarks, or laughing while wearing crazy looking green sunglasses.

Laughing and having fun helps to reduce stress. Stress can take a major toll on your health, so make sure you take some time to laugh and play everyday.

7. If You Love Someone, Tell Them Frequently

I never doubted that my grandmother loved me because she told me every time I saw her.

Feeling loved makes us feel good. Who doesn’t feel a bit better about ourselves and our day when somebody tells us they love us?

Don’t just leave it as an unspoken assumption. Tell your loved ones that you love them. It will make their day, and you’ll feel better for it to!

8. Work Hard

When my grandmother got married, she and her husband had nothing to their name. No home, no money, no car and their families had no money to help them out.

Since my grandmother never had anything handed to her. She always took the initiative to work hard to get what she wanted. It payed off. By the time she and her husband retired, they had a successful farm and a well funded retirement plan.

It’s always nice to receive a helping hand or a timely gift, but you should never expect it. If you want something, roll up your sleeves, get to work, and make it happen for yourself.

9. Get up Early

You’ve probably heard the saying “The early bird gets the worm”. I’m not totally convinced that it’s true, I see birds eating all day long. But there might just be something to it since many successful people seem to share the habit of getting up early.

My grandmother was one of them. She would always be up around 5am and by the time the rest of the world was rolling out of bed, she had already walked 5 kilometers or more and eaten her breakfast. Just imagine how much more you could get done in a day if you got out of bed an hour earlier.

I have also read in several health related books that going to bed early and getting up early is better for your health. Seeing as my grandmother lived to be 91, there might just be something to this.

10. Trust in a Higher Power

My grandmother always believed that God would take care of her. This belief provided her with a sense of security, and it also became her reality. It always seemed like things worked out well for her.

Almost all major religions, and more recently, quantum physics, teach us that our thoughts and beliefs create our physical reality. So if you believe that you will always be taken care of and that things will work out for the best, it actually will.

Just imagine how much less stress you would feel if you believed that there was a greater power out there looking out for you and taking care of you.

I want to wish you all a wonderful holiday season.

During this time of year, it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of everything. Remember to take some time to slow down and connect with what’s truly important during this season – spending time with loved ones and counting the many blessings and accomplishments of the past year.

Spending time with loved ones will rejuvenate your spirit.

Recounting how you have been blessed and what you’ve accomplished over the past year will help you to focus on what went right this year instead of what went wrong. Let go of the disappointments and spend some time celebrating the victories and blessings instead.

And as the new year approaches. Now is a good time to start setting new goals for 2010. Plan on making 2010 the best year of your life so far!

Happy Holidays!

Colin

PS – Take some time to browse through the table of contents. You’re sure to find a few great articles that you might have missed from earlier this year.

If you want to live a life that has meaning to you, one that you can be proud of when you come to your final days on this earth, you need to live your life with passion.

Living your life with passion is not as impossible as it might seem. All you need to do is to live your life in pursuit of your goals and dreams.

Life Without Passion

If you don’t actively pursue your dreams, you end up getting tossed around by the currents of life. You become distracted by what’s going on around you, and there is no central purpose to your life. You only react to what happens to you instead of working to create what you want to happen.

You might achieve a few things and you might acquire some nice stuff over time, but most of it will feel empty and meaningless. You will feel like something is missing, like there must be more to life.

Eventually, if you continue down this path, you will end up in the final years of your life filled with regret. Regret that you ignored what really mattered the most to you. Regret that you ignored your goals and dreams.

Even if you had tried and failed to achieve your dreams, you would still feel much more satisfaction with your life than if you had never tried at all.

Life Lived Passionately

A life lived passionately is a life lived in the pursuit of your dreams. Your dreams become the central guiding point on how your life is lived.

The work you do, the things you study, almost everything you do has a deeper meaning. You are careful to choose what you do with your time because those choices will either move you closer to, or further away from what you want out of life.

Every day has meaning. When you get out of bed in the morning, you know that you will be pursuing your life purpose as you move through your day.

Life still happens. But the difference is that you no longer let life control you. You are no longer simply reacting to it. You have a plan, you have a dream, and you are doing everything you can to make it a reality.

And when you finally get to your final days of this life, you can look back and feel pleased with how you used it. Even if you didn’t achieve your goals, you know that you tried your best. And as long as you tried your best, you have nothing to be ashamed of. You will not be filled with regret for ignoring what was really important to you.

Don’t Waste Any More Of Your Precious Life

Take advantage of the gift of life. Don’t squander it on meaningless pursuits and by wasting time doing meaningless activities that will have no future value.

You are not meant to hide away from your dreams. Pull them out, dust them off, and start doing whatever it takes to start making them a reality. Start living your life with passion again.

If you’re taking the time to read this article, there’s probably a good chance that you aren’t currently pursuing your life purpose. If your current source of income is leaving you feeling a little dead and unfulfilled, you need to learn how to discover your passion and purpose in life.

Your life purpose is doing something that you find fun, exciting, and fulfilling. It’s something that provides value to others, so that you can earn a living by doing it.

In short, your life purpose is living a life of service doing something you love.

So how do your discover what your life purpose is? Start by asking yourself the following question.

If Money Didn’t Exist, What Would You Do With Your Time?

If money didn’t exist, and all your needs were being taken care of, how would you spend your time?

Don’t be to quick to say that you would do nothing but sleep and watch TV all the time. That might be fun for a while, but eventually even that would be boring for most of us. Our lives need to have a bigger purpose than just lounging around all day.

What are some of your hobbies and passions.

do you enjoy working with wood?

do you feel a deep connection with nature?

do you have a deep desire to help others? If so, what groups of people specifically?

do you absolutely love video games and could spend hours and hours every day playing them if you had the chance?

It really doesn’t matter what it is, you just need to identify what you truly love doing or something that truly has deep meaning for you.

If you’re having a hard time figuring it out, keep listing things until you write something down that really makes you feel excited or deeply emotional. Once that happens, you can be pretty sure that you’re on the right track. Keep fine tuning your answers until you write something down that really strikes a cord with you emotionally.

“How Can I Help You?”

This is the other half of the equation of discovering your life purpose. Turning what you love into something that will benefit, or be of service to, others.

This is how you can earn money while pursuing your life purpose.

Here’s a few examples…

If you love working with wood, maybe you should start a business as a carpenter or furniture maker? Your love of the work will come through in what you build. People will see the love and craftsmanship in the things that you make for them. Your reputation will grow, and so will your business. You will be providing something of value to other people by doing something that you love.

If nature has a deep meaning to you, maybe you should get involved with some sort of environmental work? You could be at the front lines cleaning up the environment. Or maybe you’re blessed with a good intellect and you could educate yourself and become a scientist that works on clean technologies that do not harm the earth. You’re sure to find this type of work satisfying because it has deep meaning to you. And all living beings on this planet will benefit from your work.

Do you have a deep desire to help others? Maybe helping to ensure that everyone has enough food to eat is important to you. Why not try to get a job with a charitable organization that does that type of work? If there aren’t any that you really respect, start a non-profit organization of your own. It’s ok to pay yourself a salary for running this organization. You deserve to eat too right?Either way, you will still be helping to feed the hungry people of this planet, and you’ll be helping yourself as well because you’re doing something that has meaning to you. It’s a win-win situation for everyone involved.

Maybe you are one of the few that really do love playing video games all day. How can you turn that into something of service? Maybe you could start a website where you write game reviews, walk-throughs, hints, and more. Your passion will show through in what you write and in what you share. You will be providing a valuable service to other gamers that aren’t sure what games to spend their money on, or maybe they’re stuck on a certain level and your advice can help them through it. It doesn’t matter if there are other similar websites out there already. You can do the same thing, just put your own unique spin on it somehow.

This is truly the secret to having a fulfilling career or business. How awesome would it be to wake up in the morning knowing that you’re off to go get paid for doing something that you love?

Getting Started

Once you’ve gone through the above exercise and you’ve figured out what your life purpose is, the easiest way to get started is by figuring out what your first step should be.

If there are skills you need to learn, start reading books, taking classes, or learning from somebody else.

If you are going to start a business, start it. Even if you start doing it part-time and start doing something small out of your home, just get it started. You can always grow it slowly and go full time with it later once business picks up.

If you want to find a specific type of job, start searching for it. Let everyone know what type of work you are looking for, do online searches, call the organizations you want to work for.

Your life is passing you by, don’t wait any longer. Start living your life with passion and purpose. Take your first step today!

If you don’t wake up most mornings feeling a sense of meaning and excitement about your day, it probably means that you’re not pursuing your life purpose.

Society and the media have been trying to tell you what your life purpose is, but I’m here to tell you that they’re lying to you. There is another path you can take.

What Society Wants You To Believe Your Life Purpose Is

Society teaches us that acquiring money and stuff is the purpose of life.

We’re constantly bombarded with advertisements showing happy people who just bought some new gadget or service.

People we meet always seem to be checking out what kind of car we drive. Or they’re often comparing jobs, houses, and clothing with us.

It seems like money and stuff are how we are judged in today’s society. So to deal with this, we spend much of our time trying to acquire more of both. The problem is that neither of these things offer any lasting happiness or fulfillment.

Distractions

When you’re on your deathbed, do you think that a bunch of money and stuff will really mean anything to you? I think a lot of people have figured this out to some degree already. They just haven’t been able to determine what other options they have.

When you don’t see any purpose or meaning to life, you are left feeling empty.

I strongly believe that this is why many people spend their time distracting themselves. Excessive television viewing, constant use of mp3 players, drug and alcohol abuse; all these things serve to take our attention away from how we feel inside.

Dare To Be Different

If you don’t wake up most mornings feeling a sense of meaning to your life, and excitement about your day, it probably means that you’re not pursuing your life purpose. You need to discover what you’re passionate about and find a way to make it benefit others as well. That is your purpose in life.

Nothing will provide you more happiness then living a life of service doing something you love. Just ask yourself, would your rather have a bunch of stuff, or would you rather feel happy and fulfilled?

Oddly enough, when you choose to pursue your life purpose, the money and stuff often end up showing up anyways.

Join us in our next post when we will be discussing finding your life purpose.

The little known Universal law of vacuum can help you get what you want in life. Today I’m going to share with you how this law works so you can successfully apply it in your own life.

If you haven’t heard of the law of vacuum, don’t worry, most people haven’t. Since the movie The Secret came out a few years ago, it seems like everyone is solely focused on trying to master the law of attraction. However, there are many laws which govern how the Universe operates. The more of them you understand, the better you will be able to master your life.

Today we’re going to focus on the law of vacuum. If you can understand how this law works, you can apply it in your own life to help get what you want.

What is the Law of Vacuum?

What this law states is that nature abhors a vacuum. It will do everything it can to fill an empty space.

The best way to explain this is through an illustration. Imagine you go out into your yard, or a nearby field, and you clear out all the grasses and weeds in one area. If you leave that area empty, over the next few days and weeks it will quickly begin to fill in again with new weeds and grass.

This is the law of vacuum in action. You created a ‘vacuum’ on the surface of the ground by clearing away all the plants that were currently residing there. Nature quickly took it’s course and started to refill that ‘vacuum’ with new plants and weeds.

Nature does not like empty space. It is a law that that space must be filled in again.

This is the law of vacuum.

How Can You Use This Law To Get What You Want?

The same principles apply in your own life as they do in nature. If you create an empty space, something must eventually fill it.

In order to get what you want, you must create space in your life for it.

If you want a new relationship, make room in your closet, garage, and home for another person to come in and fill that space with their things. And get rid of anything you’re holding onto from any past relationships you’ve had.

If you want new furniture, get rid of your old furniture.

If you want a new clothes, go through your closet and get rid of everything that you never wear anymore. This will make room for new clothes.

If you know what you want, get creative and figure out how to make space for it to come into your life. Once you clear out the space, something must fill it. That’s the law of vacuum.
